A pioneering collaboration with Alfa Laval

When it comes to our climate challenge, there is no quick fix or one-size-fits-all solution. Instead, we all need to take care of our finite natural resources. This includes the materials we use but also optimizing the use of energy through improved efficiency. Every kilowatt and kilo of material we can save together will matter. And that’s what the partnership between Stena Recycling and Alfa Laval is all about. We call it Re-Made to matter.

Working together to solve our challenges

Re-Made to matter is a groundbreaking new model for taking care of plate heat exchangers at the end of their lifecycle. In an innovative partnership, we can help the industry to decarbonize its business. The collaboration encourages the replacement of old heat exchangers with new energy-efficient ones. Stena Recycling recycles all replaced heat exchangers in Sweden.

The collaboration is inspired by the Circular Initiative, a business-driven collaboration arena in circularity led by Stena Recycling.

Energy- efficient industry

Alfa Laval is a world leader in heat transfer, centrifugal separation, and fluid handling. The innovative heat exchangers enable significant energy improvements in the industry. This is a way to cut costs due to energy losses and reduce the climate footprint. Energy-efficient technology has the potential to cut 40% of the global carbon emissions!

Up to 100% recycling rate

The replaced heat exchangers are collected in an exchange program. Stena Recycling's processes in Sweden enable up to 100% recycling rate. The solution prevents a secondary market where old heat exchangers are spread to countries where they continue to cause energy losses and even more carbon emissions. The recycled heat exchangers become premium raw material and can be used in new Alfa Laval products too. In this way, the raw material stays in the loop.

Recycling conserves energy and reduces pollution and emissions

When a recycled material is used to make a new product, natural resources and energy are conserved. This is because recycled materials have already been refined and processed. This means that the second time around, the production is cleaner and has less impact on the climate than the first time. For example, every kilo of recycled copper saves five times as much carbon emissions compared to copper made from virgin materials.
