What we offer

Reduce your CO2 emissions with our service Stena CO2 Impact

Anna Sundell, Head of Sustainability, Stena Metall

Collecting carbon dioxide data for processes that lie outside of one’s own operations is a complex and extensive task. In order to facilitate this work, we are launching a new digital service – visualizing the climate impact of waste management in detail.

Stena Co2 Impact

Quality audited emissions data

Emissions from greenhouse gases occur at several levels within the waste management chain. For accurate and transparent reporting, access to reliable and detailed data is crucial. This can also help you to effectively communicate the environmental benefits of recycling, and demonstrate how circular solutions contribute to reduced environmental impact.

Three ways to calculate carbon dioxide emissions

In our digital service Stena CO2 Impact, you will find three types of data, presenting different ways of calculating carbon dioxide emissions.

Climate footprint for GHG reporting

Provides you with the data needed for reporting your climate footprint from waste management in sustainability reports (scope 3).

Expanded climate footprint

Includes all emissions presented in greenhouse gas reporting, plus environmental impact from transportation and processes required to create new raw materials from recycled waste.

Prevented climate footprint

Shows the theoretical difference between emissions of the recycled materials made from your waste (expanded climate footprint) and emissions from the production of same-quality virgin material.

FAQ

What is Stena CO₂ Impact?

Stena CO₂ Impact is a digital service in the customer portal that measures and visualises CO₂ emissions related to your waste management. It helps you understand how waste handling impacts the climate and supports your transition toward circular business models.

What type of CO₂ data does the service provide?

The service provides primary-calculated CO₂ data based on your actual waste streams and volumes. You can view emissions per location, material, article, and time period, and analyse emissions from both inbound and outbound waste flows.

How can CO₂ Impact support sustainability reporting?

CO₂ Impact supports sustainability and climate reporting by providing reliable waste-related CO₂ data. The data can be used for Scope 3 reporting according to the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol and supports initiatives such as Science Based Targets (SBTi).

Does CO₂ Impact compare recycled and virgin materials?

Yes. The service includes comparisons between emissions from recycled materials and emissions from producing the same amount of virgin material, highlighting avoided emissions and circularity benefits.

Is the data quality assured?

Yes. The calculation methods and processes used in Stena CO₂ Impact have been reviewed and quality-assured by RISE – Research Institutes of Sweden, ensuring that the data is scientifically and technically valid and aligned with established standards.

Can I export CO₂ data from the service?

Yes. CO₂ Impact allows you to export data to Excel or CSV files, enabling you to reuse the data in your own analyses, reports, or BI tools.

Is there a cost associated with Stena CO₂ Impact?

Yes. Stena CO₂ Impact is a paid subscription service. The service can be purchased directly in the Customer Portal, where available options and pricing are shown based on your account and market.

Does CO₂ Impact replace CSRD reporting?

No. CO₂ Impact provides detailed CO₂ emission data that can support sustainability and climate reporting. CSRD reporting is a separate service that delivers ready-to-use ESRS-compliant reports.
