Safe at work - A success story from Stena Recycling Poland
Suwałki is one of Stena Recycling Poland’s 17 branches. Though not the largest, this site has consistently demonstrated success to provide a safe workplace under the leadership of the Branch Manager, Iwona Korniluk. The branch has positioned itself as the circular partner for the region’s manufacturing industry. By efficiently taking care of resources, they create value every day.
Working with people has always been Iwona’s passion. In her role as branch manager, she places great emphasis on building trust and fostering strong relationships with her team and customers. Ensuring that everyone can work and feel safe at work is her top priority. The branch’s impressive number of over 4,700 days without an accident exemplifies this commitment to providing a safe workplace.
“I make sure that the employees are at the center of attention and that communication between us is smooth, so we meet regularly to discuss safety issues or our daily operations. I try to improve working practices, at our branch, but also give others space to act independently, and propose their solutions.”
"To create a safety culture, it is important to involve the people."
"Sharing responsibility for safety builds a strong commitment from the entire team in all areas, both business and production. Workplace safety keeps people focused on doing their jobs and achieving the set goals. This approach allows the company to grow successfully while having engaged employees," says Iwona Korniluk, Branch Manager at Suwałki.
The safety work at Suwałki branch in Poland
Before joining Stena Recycling, Iwona worked at a smaller company in the waste management industry. Her desire to make a positive impact led her to Stena Recycling. After starting in the sales department, Iwona got promoted to branch manager. One of the aspects she values most about her time at Stena Recycling is the continuous opportunities for personal development and taking on new responsibilities. This experience has influenced her leadership approach.

"I applied to Stena Recycling to stay in the recycling industry but work with it on a larger scale. Thanks to my work at Stena, I can contribute to changing the world for the better—whether through our educational activities and raising awareness about recycling among customers or the local community, or through our efforts to close the loop of raw materials."
