Trioplast and Stena Recycling have entered into a long-term collaboration in plastic recycling. Plastic, collected by Stena Recycling, will be processed into pellets at the Stena Nordic Recycling Center and used by Trioplast to manufacture carrier bags, among other products.
- We are seeking to use 90 percent recycled plastic in the manufacture of our bags. In order to achieve this, we need a reliable value chain to ensure that we get the best quality products. This has become possible due to Stena Recycling's new plastic recycling process. By working together, we can contribute to the circular economy, said Andreas Malmberg CEO of Trioplast.
It is a one of a kind Swedish collaboration that was announced at a plastic recycling event held at the Stena Nordic Recycling Center in Halmstad. It is a transparent material flow, with high traceability.
- We are delighted that our new plastic process offers the high quality materials that Trioplast seek. We are always looking to expand the use of recycled plastic and this is further proof of our ability to achieve that. It also shows that we have a competitive product, said Kristofer Sundsgård, Managing Director of Stena Recycling AB.
As more companies are seeking ways to use recycled plastic in their products, and restrictions have been imposed on exporting plastic waste to Asia, Europe must improve its ability to recycle plastic. Stena Recycling is taking the initiative in this area. Through the collaboration with Trioplast, Sweden’s retail sector has the opportunity to use carrier bags that are manufactured with predominantly recycled plastic. Recycled plastic film can also be used for packaging in the hygiene industry. This type of circular waste management reduces environmental impact and creates sustainable products for the future.
- Increased demand for recycled materials is raising the profitability of recycling processes, which enables the development of new technological solutions. Trioplast, which already uses 25 percent recycled plastic in its products, requires a reliable supplier of high-quality recycled raw materials. Collaborations like this allow us to invest heavily in large-scale plastic recycling, something that will have a positive effect on future generations, said Kristofer Sundsgård.
